Abstract

SHS investigation development is considered from the geographical and historical viewpoint. 3 stages are described. Within Stage 1 the work was carried out in the Department of the Institute of Chemical Physics in Chernogolovka where the scientific discovery had been made. At Stage 2 the interest to SHS arose in different cities and towns of the former USSR. Within Stage 3 SHS entered the international scene. Now SHS processes and products are being studied in more than 50 countries.

Abstract

The chapter discusses the concept of risks in the economy and how it affects the everyday operations of a company. Risks arising can result in economic losses, damage to facilities and equipment, and, most importantly, workplace accidents. Risk management nowadays has developed in both concept and practice and has become an industry in countries with a functional market economy. The chapter emphasizes that risk management is a crucial aspect of global management that requires information from various fields, such as economic, technical, legal, statistical, and psychological, to maintain the risk at the minimum level. Moreover, effective risk management can lead to sustainable development for humans, the environment, and businesses.
