Abstract

SHS investigation development is considered from the geographical and historical viewpoint. 3 stages are described. Within Stage 1 the work was carried out in the Department of the Institute of Chemical Physics in Chernogolovka where the scientific discovery had been made. At Stage 2 the interest to SHS arose in different cities and towns of the former USSR. Within Stage 3 SHS entered the international scene. Now SHS processes and products are being studied in more than 50 countries.

Abstract

The development of dentition and occlusion is an integral part of craniofacial growth as the formation, eruption, exfoliation, and exchange of teeth occur during this period. It is an assimilation of facts, predictions, and studies in static and dynamic situations, the factors influencing them, and their clinical implications. The development of dentition and occlusion is a dynamic concept. The first sign of tooth development appears late in the third week of intrauterine life. An ideal occlusion is the perfect interdigitation of the upper and lower teeth, which results from a developmental process consisting of three main events, jaw growth, tooth formation, and eruption. Development of occlusion starts before the eruption of first teeth in the oral cavity and lasts lifelong thereafter.
