Abstract

SHS investigation development is considered from the geographical and historical viewpoint. 3 stages are described. Within Stage 1 the work was carried out in the Department of the Institute of Chemical Physics in Chernogolovka where the scientific discovery had been made. At Stage 2 the interest to SHS arose in different cities and towns of the former USSR. Within Stage 3 SHS entered the international scene. Now SHS processes and products are being studied in more than 50 countries.

Abstract

Non-operating room anesthesia (NORA) is becoming increasingly popular
for pediatric patients and comes with its own unique challenges that warrant
consideration in order to provide safe anesthetic care. This chapter is organized by
location and discusses considerations for locations such as the radiology suite,
interventional radiology, gastroenterology, and oncology sites. Agent selection and
anesthetic type can vary even within each locale, and different techniques are presented
to help guide the practitioner on what may be expected with each site and procedure.
Checklists are provided as cognitive aids for the safe preparation. The postanesthesia
recovery period for these patients is also summarized, and discharge criteria are
provided.
