Abstract

Graphene, a famous material, is rapidly rising in the field of materials
science. The 2D material demonstrates in a small period of history particular
properties, which are briefly discussed in the present chapter. This work reviews the
preparation, characterization and potential applications of graphene in water splitting.
The chapter starts with a short introduction to graphene, its properties, and structural
features. Then, a section on the different methods used for its preparation and its
modification are discussed in detail. In addition, this chapter contains some practical
examples of graphene-based materials largely used for hydrogen generation. In
addition, this chapter contains a thorough revision of the latest results on the use of
graphene-based materials for hydrogen production via water splitting using
photocatalytic or photoelectrocatalytic processes.
