Abstract

Infections and burn wounds are a major issue for people with diabetes. For
many years, traditional antibiotics have been used for the treatment of wound infections
and now it is required to find some new approaches since they have reached a critical
status. Metallic nanoparticles are known as a developing group of functional materials,
changing all of the human life domains. Among them, silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs)
are important due to their exceptional biological, physical and chemical properties and
then associated applications. In recent decades, several studies have been completed for
the development of green synthesis methods for Ag-NPs to avoid the traditional use of
dangerous synthetic chemicals. The green fabrication of Ag-NPs using plant extracts is
considered as a non-hazardous, low-cost, and eco-friendly technique, along with the
presentation of a wide range of biomolecules in such extracts that can act as reducing
and capping agents. Plant-mediated Ag-NPs embedded in wound dressings promote the
healing process of wounds and control microorganism growth. This chapter focuses on
the plant-mediated synthesis of Ag-NPs and their use in wound healing applications.
