Publishes original research articles, letters, reviews/mini-reviews and guest edited thematic issues on various topics related to geotechnical engineering.

The Geotechnical Engineering section of the journal Current Chinese Science publishes original research articles, letters, reviews/mini-reviews and guest edited thematic issues on various topics related to geotechnical engineering.

This section is not limited to a specific aspect of the field but is instead devoted to a wide range of sub fields in the area. Articles of a multidisciplinary nature are particularly welcome. In recent 5 years, as the first/ communication author, Prof. Lin has published 34 papers indexed by SCI. Wherein, 2 papers were included in the ESI top 1‰ hot papers, 8 papers were selected as the ESI top 1% high cited papers, and 4 papers were considered as the top academic papers of Chinese high-quality science and technology journals. Besides, Prof. Lin was appointed as the subeditor/editor of the international SCI journals of Front Earth Sci, Adv Civ Eng and Geofluids, as well as the editor-in-chief of 2 academic monographs, one of which is the approximations of China Water and Hydropower Press. In addition, Prof. Lin has also won the National Xu Zhilun Outstanding Teacher Award in Mechanics, the Outstanding Young Science and Technology Talent Award in the Fields of Mining, Petroleum and Safety Engineering, the second prize of Natural Science Award of Hunan Province, the second prize of the Natural Science of the Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, the Natural Science Award of Zhejiang Institute of Geomechanics and Engineering, and the outstanding advisor of master's degree thesis of Hunan Province. The project aims to explore the evolution mechanism and regulation mechanism of anti-shear resistance of the structure surface under non-uniform load through the large-scale structural surface direct shear tests, so as to lay a theoretical foundation for the local regulation technique of rock joints.

Academic activities of Professor Yuan are mainly committed to dynamic aspects and serviceability of underground facilities, funded by NSFC and MOST, China. He is actively involved in the capacity of board member of several professional committees such as Council of Education and Training of International Association of Tunnelling (ITA-CET), Performance and Safety of federation internationale du beton (fib), Protective Engineering of Chinese Civil Engineering Society (CCCS), Tunnel Engineering of China Highway and Transportation Society (CHTS). He is also an active editorial board member of Engineering Structures, Structural Concrete, Scientific Report, and Mechanics in Engineering, as well as the executive section editor of both Geotechnical Engineering and Underground Structure of Current Chinese Science.

With continuous and contemporary contributions to the academic society of civil engineering, he was elected among the TOP 2% scientists based on the Elsevier database. He was also awarded more than ten times for his achievements in scientific and technological contribution, as well as international cooperation.

Dr. Pornkasem Jongpradist is currently an Associate Professor at the King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand and also the head of the research center of Geomechanics and Ground Improvement, and Vice president of Thailand Underground and Tunnelling Group. He also serves as an editorial board member of the Underground Space journal. He received his PhD in civil engineering from The University of Tokyo in 2001. Dr. Jongpradist has published more than 50 research papers in various highly reputed journals. His general research interests include computational geomechanics, numerical modeling of geotechnical works, tunneling and underground excavations and ground improvements.

Dr. Shunying Ji obtained his bachelor, master and doctor degrees from the Department of Engineering Mechanics of Dalian University of Technology in 1995, 1998 and 2001, respectively. Recently, he worked on the discrete element method (DEM) and its applications in cold region offshore engineering and soil mechanics. Since 2011, he has served as a full professor in the state Key Laboratory of Structural Analysis for Industrial Equipment, Department of Engineering Mechanics of Dalian University of Technology. He serves as Dean of the DUT- BSU joint Institute of Dalian University of Technology recently. His research interests are mainly concentrated in areas of computational granular mechanics and its engineering applications in polar ship and offshore engineering, ballast dynamics of railway, landing process of lander and return capsule. He published over 150 journal papers, three academic books titled as Numerical Modelling of Engineering Ice and its applications (2011), Computational Granular Mechanics and its Engineering Applications (2018 in Chinese version and 2020 in English version).

Dr CHENG is an associate professor at University College London UCL. Dr. Helen graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and received her PhD from the Cambridge University. She has served in the advisory board of the international journals of Getechnique, Geotechnique Letters, and as guest editor for Computers and Geotechnics. She is currently a member of the ISSMGE International Committee TC105 Geo-mechanics from Micro to Macro.

Dr. Ye He is currently a Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). He received his BE from SJTU, Master degree from Tongji University, and PhD from Japan’s Gifu University. He started his academic career at SJTU from 2007, after working in Geo-Research Institute in Japan for 3 years. So that he always likes to link theory and engineering practice in his research. Dr. Ye has broad research interests, including: soil mechanics (laboratory testing and constitutive modelling), numerical analysis on geotechnical engineering (static and dynamic, THMA coupled), geo-centrifuge modelling and shield tunnelling. He has published over 50 SCI journal papers. He is also an associated editor of Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering and editorial board member of two other scientific journals.

Dr. Huada Daniel Ruan is a Professor and a Founding Head of the Department of Environmental Science, Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC). Prof. Ruan earned his first PhD in Mineralogy from The University of Western Australia, and second PhD in Chemistry from Queensland University of Technology. He has a background in chemistry, earth sciences, environmental science, biological science, and published more than 140 articles. Prof. Ruan is the pioneer researcher established water eutrophication index and innovative techniques in bauxite refinery in Australia, and advanced bio-chemical remediation of contaminated soils in the U.S.A. He is the Adjunct Professor at the Griffith University, Australia; Visiting Professor at the South China Agricultural University and Guangdong Research Institute of Ecology and Soil Science.

Prof. Huafu Pei is currently a Professor at the Dalian University of Technology. He has researched the geotechnical disaster monitoring and prevention in the past fifteen years. He has published more than 30 academic journal papers. He was awarded as “Xingliao Talent” program of Liaoning Province, youth technology star of Dalian City, and “Xinghai” one thousand youth talents program of Dalian University of Technology (DUT). He has won the Best Paper Award of the 6th International Forum on Opto-electronic Sensor-based Monitoring in Geo-engineering (6th OSMG), and the first teaching achievement prize in Liaoning Province as a member. He is the member of the field monitoring technical committee (TC220) of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), the member of International Consortium on Geo-disaster Reduction (ICGdR), the editorial board member of Geoenvironmental Disasters, and the guest editor-in-chief for the special issue of an SCI-indexed journal.

He has already published over 40 technical papers as the first or corresponding authors on these topics in leading professional journals, most of which were published by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology.

He was awarded the Best Paper Award (Geological Field) from the Korean Society of Oceanography. As a representative of IODP (International Ocean Discovery Program) Korea, he is collaborating with 26 international IODP member countries.
