Abstract

This review focuses on the catalytic activity of the organic bicyclic amidine base, 1,8-diazabicyclo [5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU). It is available commercially, cheap and a homogenous catalyst. It has been used widely in a variety of reactions viz. elimination, esterification, cyclisation, condensation, multicomponent reactions etc.
