Abstract

Stretch marks, commonly called as Striae distensae (SD) are asymptomatic, dermatological condition frequently cause psychological distress and cosmetic defacement among the females of 5 to 50 years of ages. SD usually occur during pregnancy, weight change, puberty, due to lack of skin elasticity and pathogenic disorders such as anorexia nervosa, cushing illness, and even drug abuse. In a clinical setting, they manifest as white depressed atrophic bands, identified as Striae alba (SA), or red elevated linear bands, identified as Striae rubrae (SR). A number of therapeutic methods have been used to achieve the highest level of effectiveness with the fewest possible adverse effects like non-traditional treatments for dermatologic conditions. But the investigational studies of plant-based therapies such as medicinal herbs and supplements, complementary traditional systems such as Chinese system of medicine, and healthy mind are found more commonly in the literature survey. Now-a-days, Natural products is a growing industry manufacturing skin products which replaces irritating and harmful chemicals with natural herbal extracts and herbal oils. Interestingly, herbal extracts like Aloe vera, Turmeric and saffron etc. are currently gaining popularity among people for skin problems. Herbal therapies have proved to be quite valuable in preventing needless drug interactions that may result in hazardous allergic responses. As a consequence, an advanced investigation should be geared towards traditionally used herbal plants with the aim of identifying any novel molecule that can be used as alternative remedies against Striae distensae.
